OEM vs. Aftermarket Sony Camcorder Batteries
Each of our aftermarket Sony camcorder batteries come with a full one year warranty. www.eobattery.com believes in the safety of
our customers, and each of our replacement camcorder batteries are made with high-grade cells and meet certification
standards including FCC, CE, UL, and RoHS. Many OEM brands claim that only their batteries should be used with the
corresponding product, but OEM batteries typically cost much more than aftermarket batteries. Our aftermarket Sony
camcorder batteries are a direct replacement and will either meet or exceed OEM manufacturer power specifications at a
competitive low price.
Sony Camcorder Battery Specifications
Your replacement Sony camcorder battery will be made from one of three materials: NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride), Ni-Cad
(Nickel Cadmium), and Li-Ion (Lithium Ion). All three battery types have their advantages and disadvantages; for example,
a Ni-Cad battery typically has a longer life cycle and a faster charge time, but requires more maintenance; whereas a NiMH
battery provides a little more power than a Ni-Cad does, requires less maintenance, but has a shorter overall lifespan. In the
end though, our Sony camcorder batteries will last an overall average of two to three years, or 500 discharge / charge cycles.
Our aftermarket Sony camcorder batteries will also have three different power specifications on them, each of which have a
different function: “W” (wattage), “V” (voltage), and “mAh” (milliampere-hour). The voltage of most camcorder batteries
will range from 3.6 to 9.6 (most are around the 6 or 7.2 range), but the wattage and milliampere-hour will change just
based on how much power the battery can give out. The higher these two measurements are, the longer your Sony camcorder
battery will last on a full charge.
We provide two versions of batteries for a select few Sony camcorder models: the standard version, and the higher capacity
version. The higher capacity will have the same part number, but will end in an “H”. This higher capacity battery version
will have a larger mAh rating to provide customers with an even longer lasting camcorder battery.
Sony Camcorder Charge and Discharge Rates
Currently, camcorder batteries have a lifespan of two to three years, or 500 discharge / charge cycles. This not only
depends on the battery and camcorder you have, but also how you treat your battery, and the type of material used in the
battery (see “Battery Specs” for more information on this). New technology is starting to allow us to create batteries with
longer life spans, more power, and smaller sizes. For now, charging one of our replacement Sony camcorder batteries for an
hour will give it, on average, 80% capacity, with the remainder being charged within the second or third hour. A fully
charged Sony battery should last your camcorder for a few hours.
